On Tuesday 6 October, DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs LIVE returns to [UNVRS] for its second consecutive year, bringing one of electronic music's most recognisable annual traditions back to Ibiza.
Alongside the live reveal of the 2026 World's No. 1 DJ, the evening will feature performances from ANASTAZJA, Lost Frequencies, Korolova, Charlotte de Witte, GORDO and Vintage Culture, before the newly crowned No. 1 closes the ceremony with a celebratory set.
Since its launch in 1993, the Top 100 DJs poll has grown into the world's largest public vote dedicated to electronic music. For more than three decades, it has documented the evolution of the global dance scene while celebrating artists chosen directly by fans.
Beyond the headline ranking, the ceremony also recognises achievements across categories including Trance, Techno, House, Hard Dance, DJ Group, Highest New Entry, Highest Climber, Future Star and Outstanding Contribution.
Yet as electronic music has continued to evolve, so too has the question of what the Top 100 represents today.
Once regarded as both a reflection of fan enthusiasm and an influential reference point within the industry, the poll now exists in a far broader and more fragmented musical landscape than the one in which it was created.
Electronic music has expanded beyond club culture into a global creative ecosystem spanning festivals, labels, visual artists, immersive production, digital creators and countless subgenres, making it increasingly difficult for a single popularity ranking to capture the richness of the scene.
That does not diminish the significance of the Top 100 DJs. Few rankings have achieved comparable global recognition, and its arrival at [UNVRS] gives the ceremony a fitting sense of scale and prestige. But it also raises an interesting question: should the industry's most visible celebration continue to revolve primarily around one public vote?
Perhaps the next evolution is not to replace the Top 100, but to build upon it. Alongside the fan-voted ranking, electronic music could benefit from a broader annual awards ceremony recognising excellence across multiple disciplines, with winners selected by a respected panel of artists, promoters, journalists, curators and other industry professionals—an approach closer to the Grammy Awards or the Academy Awards than a popularity poll.
For more than thirty years, the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs has celebrated the artists who connect most strongly with audiences. The next challenge may be finding a way to celebrate the wider creative ecosystem that continues to shape electronic music far beyond a single ranking.
