Loop Switch 2 : Design Meets Function

Founded in 2016 by Maarten Bodewes and Dimitri O, Loop emerged from a simple yet overlooked premise: protection should not mean compromise. The brand was conceived with tinnitus in mind, addressing the lived reality of music lovers who found themselves navigating ringing ears long after the lights came up. The ambition was precise—limit decibel intake without flattening the sonic experience. Over the past decade, Loop has steadily repositioned earplugs from utilitarian afterthought to considered design object.

Among the range—including the Quiet 2 and Experience 2—the Loop Switch 2 stands as the most refined expression of the concept. Adjustable across multiple attenuation modes, it allows the wearer to adapt in real time: from dancefloor immersion to backstage conversation without removing the device. The mechanism is intuitive, the transition seamless.

Where user-centric design meet cutting-edge performance

The Loop Switch 2 features three precision-engineered noise reduction modes:

• Quiet Mode (26 dB SNR): Perfect for blocking out the world during travel or when focus is paramount.

• Experience Mode (23 dB SNR): Ideal for live events, preserving audio quality while reducing volume.

• Engage Mode (20 dB SNR): Tailored for clarity in speech-heavy environments like cafés or video calls.

The earplugs are incredibly comfortable, thanks to hypoallergenic silicone tips and a slimmer profile, making them suitable for all-day use, They feature a tactile mechanical dial that allows seamless transitions between modes, and the product’s premium satin (Black, Emerald) or glossy finishes (Gold, Silver) elevate it to a stylish accessory.

The design language is deliberate. From packaging to material finish, the experience evokes the kind of industrial clarity more commonly associated with high-end consumer electronics than hearing protection. The silver ring—minimal, architectural—functions both as acoustic channel and visual signature. The comparison often heard in conversation is not accidental: if Apple designed earplugs, the result might resemble this.

Field Test: Ibiza, Unfiltered

Our evaluation took place across Ibiza’s layered ecosystem: open-air venues, enclosed club rooms, DJ booths and production corridors. Security personnel tested the Quiet 2, reporting reduced stress and sharper focus in high-decibel environments. Clubgoers wearing the Experience 2 noted preserved clarity—high frequencies intact, bass moderated without distortion. DJs and stage managers relied on the Switch 2, particularly valuing its adaptability when moving between stage, booth and backstage communication.

The feedback was consistent: protection without perceptible sacrifice. The ear remains engaged with the room rather than insulated from it.

Why wearing earplugs matters

The urgency is not theoretical. Artists including Martin Garrix and Alesso have spoken publicly about living with permanent tinnitus. According to data from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, exposure to 100 dB should not exceed 15 minutes without risk. Festival and club environments frequently surpass that threshold.

Alesso recently announced a career break due to ongoing hearing problems, and just days ago, Martin Garrix revealed on Raj Shamani’s podcast that he, too, suffers from permanent tinnitus, explaining: “I have a tinnitus. So it's like 'eeee' all the time. Everybody should wear earplugs. You don't want to have this. There’s a non-stop like a beep. It’s like 10 mosquitoes around me all the time.

The May 2024 Apple Hearing Study highlighted the urgency of hearing protection, with 77.6% of participants experiencing tinnitus at some point in their lives. Noise trauma remains the leading cause, especially in the music industry. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) reminds you should only be exposed to 100db for 15 minutes to avoid hearing damage.

Loop Switch 2 Final Verdict

The Loop Switch 2 represents more than just a product—it’s a statement about the future of live music lovers.

The Loop Switch 2 succeeds because it reframes protection as integration rather than interruption. Comfortable enough to forget, precise enough to trust, it moves from novelty to habit. Its only omission—a detachable cord sold separately—is minor within an otherwise coherent design philosophy.

In conclusion, the Loop Switch 2 delivers on every front: style, performance, comfort, and user experience. For anyone who loves music, they are an essential must-have in your bag, alongside your sunglasses and wallet. In an era where spectacle often eclipses sustainability, Loop offers something quietly radical: longevity. Not of trend, but of hearing. And in a culture built on sound, that is no small proposition.
