Spotify will deliver CD-quality sound featuring Spotify HiFi

Spotify premium users will soon be able to upgrade their sound quality to Spotify HiFi and listen to their favorite songs in a lossless audio format.

After announcing earlier this month that the streaming plateforme has now 345 million monthly active listeners on its platform and 155 million paid subscribers, Spotif released a new episode of their  Stream On video series featuring American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish and record producer FINNEAS, announcing its new Qobuzz-and-Tidal-killer-feature called Spotify HiFi.

It’s been nearly four years since word first got out that Spotify was testing a lossless audio format. It’s unclear why it took the streaming service provider so long to make an official announcement.

Spotify HiFi, a feature not a subscription

Spotify HiFi will provide High-quality music streaming in CD-quality, lossless audio format to devices and Spotify Connect-enabled speakers.

It’s important to insist on the fact that this will be a feature and not a new subscription in order to offer a “Spotify’s seamless user experience” and “ let people listen to the music they love in the way they want to enjoy it”.

Spotify HiFi will not be available worldwide but only in select markets later this year, and the company will deliver more details soon. Spotify did note that “Premium subscribers in select markets will be able to upgrade their sound quality to Spotify HiFi” suggesting it could be some kind of paid add-on feature.
