Few days after the release of Mark Knight’ retrospective & charity album entitled “A Year in the Life” – which all proceeds will be donated to the War Child’ charity organization – Toolroom just release the eponym documentary as a last piece of this nice project.

From gigs to meetings at Toolroom HQ, being in his studio to more personal and intimate shots of him as a father, the film shows a side to the DJ that not many fans will have ever seen. While the documentary gives an insight into the man and the DJ, the long player certainly underlines his talent as a producer. He quote :

” I balance my career and my family and make these two worlds exist simultaneously. I try to live a very normal life with, lets be honest, a not very normal job. I feel it’s important for people to see the real me. One of the things I’m proudest of is that any success I’ve had in my career has been based on real, tangible achievements.

I made my name from producing records consistently over the years, and getting real sales and chart positions on sites like Beatport, from building a record label and business in Toolroom that’s got a solid, credible reputation for being the best at what we do. I haven’t taken a shortcut.

My success is down to my own hard work and the support from my amazing team, not from hanging out with the right people at parties or paying for loads of PR. Chasing trends is not my thing and maybe that means you’re not always the act with the most hype, but it does mean you get a long and meaningful career, which is something I feel very privileged to have. What I would say to some new acts coming through is to be wary of chasing trends if you’re looking to do this in the long-term. ” – Mark Knight

Featuring collaborations with superstar in the making Adrian Hour and the likes of Prok & Fitch, Harry Romero, Chus & Ceballos, Coyu and Indiana, all proceeds from the album will be donated to the War Child charity, a cause close to Mark’s heart.

” There’s never a wrong time to be doing something for charity. Travelling to different countries around the world is an amazing opportunity, and yes lots of fun, but you also see poverty and inequality in action. Since having a son, and him being of the age where he now misses me, it makes me think differently.

I’m sure lots of parents would say that having children of your own opens your eyes, and gives you a stronger empathy for the lives of children around the world who are a lot less fortunate than your own. Dance music is about escapism, but we can’t ignore the fact that there are others in this world that need our help. Doing something like this feels right. ” – Mark Knight
