10 Talks moments not to miss during Amsterdam Dance Event 2015

Powered by Buma, the upcoming 2015 edition and 20th anniversary of Amsterdam Dance Event promises to be unforgettable with the greatest electronic music legends on conference to share their stories with Kenny Dope, Dj Pierre, Jeff Mills, Roger Sanchez and the infamous new generation producers like Afrojack, Martin Garrix, GLOWINTHEDARK or Oliver Heldens.

Through ADE, ADE MusicTalks, ADE Next, ADE Beats you’ll have the unique opportunity to listen to the greatest as the next-generation producers generation talking about electronic music, hip-hop, business & production. No, Amsterdam Dance Event 2015 is not anymore the usual annual gathering of Electronic Music’ world in Amsterdam, more than being only the world’s largest club-based festival, Amsterdam Dance Event is the best way to build a bridge between generations, musical genre & people. It’s all about the passion of Electronic Music people that live for & with it.

Here are our selection – inevitably incomplete – of the Events & talks moments not to be missed this year.

 

1°) ADE & Rembrandthuis presents: Jeff Mills X Rembrandt

15/10 : From 09:00 to 12:00 at Rembrandthuis

As part of the 20th anniversary of the Amsterdam Dance Event, US techno DJ and producer Jeff Mills will spend a day working within the walls of the studio once used by Rembrandt at The Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam. Inspired by Rembrandt’s intimate early painting Philosopher in Meditation, Mills will compose three new tracks during a private session on 15 October at The Rembrandt House Museum.

Following the session, he will reflect on his experience in this space for ADE MusicTalks at Flemish cultural centre De Brakke Grond in Amsterdam. In the auditorium of the Rembrandt house museum ADE Card Holders will be able to view the live stream of what Jeff’s composing in Rembrandt’s original studio and will be able to gain free entrance for the whole museum during all 5 days of ADE (14 -18 oct 2015).

 

2°) ADE MusicTalks: Roger Sanchez

15/10 : From 12:30 to 13:15 at De Brakke Grond – G2: Panel Room

At ADE Playgrounds’ hotspot ‘De Brakke Grond’, ADE will host a series of MusicTalks: Q&A’s with artists, free for music enthusiasts and fans holding an ADE Card and ADE delegates. Three days packed with some of the worlds’ biggest artists. Expect live Q&A’s with DJ’s who share their experience, passion and music! Questions allowed!

Roger Sanchez is a Grammy Award Winner for his remix of Hella Good by No Doubt in 2003. He is a four time DJ Awards winner for “Best House DJ” in 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2007 and has received twelve nominations in all. He won the first International Dance Music Award for Best Podcast in 2007 and has received 8 IDMA nominations for Best American DJ (2003-2010).

 

3°) ADE MusicTalks: Afrojack

15/10 : From 14:00 to 15:00 at De Brakke Grond – G2: Panel Room

At ADE Playgrounds’ hotspot ‘De Brakke Grond’, ADE will host a series of MusicTalks: Q&A’s with artists, free for music enthusiasts and fans holding an ADE Card and ADE delegates. Three days packed with some of the worlds’ biggest artists. Expect live Q&A’s with DJ’s who share their experience, passion and music! Questions allowed!

Nick van de Wall, commonly known by his stage name Afrojack,who released his debut album Forget the World in 2014. Afrojack regularly features in top 10 of DJ Mag Top 100 DJ’s, and he has co-produced music with many top artists including David Guetta, Mike Brown and Madonna.

 

4°) Q&A: Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez – Three Decades Of Hip-Hop Passion

16/10 : From 16:00 to 16:45 at Melkweg – M5 Panel Room

Brooklyn’s Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez started his DJ-career in 1985 organizing neighborhood block parties. Coming from a hip-hop background, he has had a tremendous passion for hip-hop music and culture from day one and became widely recognized as an important crate digger who has been unearthing musical gems ever since, in his own music and with his record labels and special collections. The Dopewax and Kay-Dee Records imprints of the Masters At Work-legend are the home of high quality contemporary hip-hop music and beautiful reissues of land mark releases like the Wild Style-soundtrack and Criminal Minded by Boogie Down Productions – hip-hop heritage reissues overseen by a true connoisseur. In this talk Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez talks about three decades of loving, collecting and preserving hip-hop’s finest moments.

 

5°) ADE MusicTalks: Martin Garrix

16/10 : From  17:00 to 18:00 at De Brakke Grond – G2: Panel Room

This year, Amsterdam Dance Event will host a series of ADE MusicTalks: Q&A’s with artists, a round table discussion with some of the electronic music scene’s top players, and free for music enthusiasts and fans holding an ADE Card and ADE delegates. Debuting at number 40 of DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs, he is currently ranked number 4, Martijn Garritsen, known by his stage name Martin Garrix, will be there to share his thoughts on the industry and the success of his 7Up campaign in the US.

7°) ADE MusicTalks: DJ Pierre

DJ Pierre is a Chicago born DJ and performer of house music who helped to develop the house-music sub-genre of acid house, as member of Phuture, whose 1987 EP Acid Tracks was called the first acid-house recording. Using a TB 303 Pierre will re-create the moment that acid house was born at MusicTalks.

 

8°) In Studio With: GLOWINTHEDARK

17/10 : From 13:00 to 13:45 at Felix Meritis – F11 Interface Magazine Studio

GLOWINTHEDARK have a unique sound based on their love of electronic beats, combined with an undeniable mastery of the studio. ADE Next offers you the opportunity to be taken on a guided tour of the processes they use to make their tunes, plus get their opinions on which plug-ins work best for them, how they combine their love of traditional sounds with something more up to date, and maybe a hint of what their upcoming music is going to sound like.

 

9°) Q&A: Oliver Heldens

17/10 ; From 15:00 to 15:45 at Felix Meritis – F3 Panel Room

The Oliver Heldens Q&A session will reveal how the 20 year-old producer feels about being a role model for young people and how he balances that responsibility with being both in the spotlight and still only, technically speaking, a young adult. He’ll also be revealing how he has used social media to expand a business empire which now includes Heldeep Radio, Heldeep Recordings, and his recording alter ego Hi-Lo.

 

10°) Amsterdam Museum presents: Graffiti. New York meets the Dam

From 15/10 to 17/10 and from 10:00 to 17:00 at Amsterdam Museum

This is a real first: never before has an exhibition been dedicated solely to graffiti in New York and Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Museum has joined forces with The Museum of the City of New York to offers you a unique exhibition, featuring more than 200 objects which tells the story of how graffiti reigned supreme in 1980s New York and reached across the ocean to inspire Amsterdam graffiti writers too.

New York meets the Dam” will show how a young generation was able to change the street scene 30 years ago and how their influence is still very much evident today, in music, fashion and contemporary visual culture.  *City as Canvas: Graffiti Art from the Martin Wong Collection was developed by the Museum of the City of New York, curated by Sean Corcoran, Curator of Prints and Photographs.
