BBC Worldwide announced today the acquisition of music documentary Stories, from Grammy-nominated producer, song-writer & artist Tim Burgling aka Avicii, who will be attending MIPTV in Cannes next month to launch this 60-minutes-film.
The eagerly-awaited music documentary, formed by Avicii’ s experiences since the release of his debut album True in 2013, traces the global superstar’s phenomenal story, from his early days posting tracks online through to his global chart-topping success. Holding nothing back, Stories shows Avicii’s career in varying lights, from playing in front of 80,000 fans in his hometown in Stockholm, to having an illness that necessitated the cancellation of a year’s worth of tour dates.
“ Avicii redefined the boundaries of contemporary dance music with his debut album. His hits have gone gold and platinum in 25 countries, but little is known about the man behind the music. This film promises to give fans and music lovers an insight into the unbelievable world of a superstar artist, from the highs of playing to packed stadiums around the world to the lows of illness and struggling to get back to the stage. We are very excited to see the finished project later this year. ” - Salim Mukaddam, BBC Worldwide Director of Music
Directed by Levan Tsikurishvili (Avicii on Tour), Stories follows the release of Avicii’s much-anticipated follow up LP, which comprises of 14 new original tracks, including lead album single Waiting For Love - a track that peaked at #1 on iTunes in 22 countries earlier this summer. The ground-breaking film shows Avicii’s incredible journey in creating the unique, ever-blossoming sound for the new album, featuring a plethora of his new material.
" We are extremely excited to work with one of Sweden’s biggest music exports, and the documentary will be something special in the world of music documentaries. The very unique footage will give an extraordinary look into Tim’s world as the artist Avicii. The very talented director, Levan, is spending an enormously amount of time with Tim, and the access to the – normally - so anonymous artist is giving a rare insight in the life of a super star. " - Daniel Zackrisson, Sveriges Television Executive Producer
Avicii’s multi-million selling albums Stories and True have featured global anthems Wake Me Up, Levels, Hey Brother and Waiting for Love – with Wake Me Up becoming the most Shazamed song of all time. Avicii has a number of major collaborations under his belt, teaming-up with artists such as Chris Martin, Madonna, Wyclef Jean and Nile Rodgers, amongst others.
